Head of Speech and Language Therapy Department

Prof. Dr. Gülmira Sadiyeva Kuruoğlu was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. She completed his primary and secondary education in Baku. In 1994, she completed her master’s degree at Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Russian Language and Literature. In 1995, she graduated from the Speech Therapy Program at the Education Institute of the Ministry of National Education in Azerbaijan.

In 1998, she received her PhD on the subject of “Psycholinguistic Analysis of Language and Speech Disorders as a result of Brain Damage” in Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences, Institute of Linguistics. She was appointed as Associate Professor in 2002 and Professor in 2008.

She worked as a researcher in the Institute of Linguistics of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences between 1994-2003 and as a speech therapist in the Department of Neurology of the Baku Respublika Clinic Hospital between 1995-2003.

She has been working at Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Linguistics since 2003. She worked as a speech therapist (aphasiologist) at Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation between 2006-2013.

Since 2018, she is the founding department head of the Department of Speech and Language Therapy at Dokuz Eylul University, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Gülmira Kuruoğlu has been involved in many projects related to speech and language disorders caused by brain damage in Azerbaijan, Russia, Japan and Turkey. She gave lectures and presented papers in the fields of psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, language and speech disorders in many countries such as Azerbaijan, Russia, Japan, Italy, France, Turkey etc. She has many published articles in peer-reviewed journals on these topics and also she has books named “Neurolinguistics” and “Aphasia: A Neurolinguistic Research”.
